Humbling and Honest

Jenna began to serve as acolyte for our church this Christmas.  She was acolyte for one service, torch bearer for another, and carried the cross in the Christmas Eve service. My grandparents and my aunt got to be there for her first time as acolyte.  Even more special, it was her first time helping serve communion.  I'm so glad my grandparents got to see that.

Humbling.

Incredibly humbling.... to be served communion by your child.

Now... as you know my family... there's always always ALWAYS a funny story to go with everything.  (We just can't be serious...ever)... so I must share this with you.

Jenna has been taking communion since she was 5 (she was invited by Pastor because she was following along in church).  She would never try the wine, always wanted grape juice.  She told Pastor "I'm only 5! I cannot have wine!"  (He and I both giggled at her dramatic statement, she was apparently appalled someone even offered wine to her. haha!)

so... back to 2012. Jenna is serving communion for the first time.  The servers get to commune first.  All of the others drank wine.... Jenna felt apparent peer pressure and tried the wine for the first time.

so... Jenna is holding the wine and grape juice, and telling each person "The blood of Christ shed for you."

However, that is not what she said to 3 people.  Myself, my mother, and my sister all received this greeting: "The blood of Christ shed for you, I tried the wine, and I LIKED IT!" She said this really quickly, nobody else heard her....but we very clearly did...and we couldn't help but laugh... it was hilarious!

So...as humbling as it was watching my child serve communion, and being served communion....the lump in my throat fell to the floor as my daughter shared with me her new discovery....she likes communion wine.  Hey, at least she is honest!
::sigh:: oh boy.
