Bradley Update!

You may remember my request for prayers for my nephew Bradley Cade that I asked for a few months back. Thank you all for your prayers and I apologize for not updating sooner! Bradley is Eric's sister Brandi's oldest child and he's such a sweet little boy- and he's Jenna's very best buddy. We love him so very much and I'm moved to tears every time I read his mother's blog posts. Bradley has been struggling with these allergy and eczema issues since he was born, at many times suffering very frightening symptoms. But the Lord is GREAT and Bradley has come so far! Here is an update I received from Brandi this morning:

"As many of you know, Bradley started going to MUSC back in April for his uncontrollable flares of eczema and his allergies. In June he began seeing an even more specialized dermatologist since we were unable to receive the treatment originally prescribed (Narrowband UVB light therapy).

Now I am always hesitant to get excited or to think a treatment method is working, but he has definitely been improving. During our 1st visit with the new dermatologist, I was okay with the plan....skeptical about going back on some old meds., but at least they were old meds. that seemed to start working after the allergist here prescribed them, and then 2 weeks later the dermatologist at the time here would totally disagree and change his meds. Also during the 1st visit the discussion about possibly looking at the use of methotrexate was brought up.

During our 2nd visit, one of Bradley's meds was tweaked to a slightly stronger med (again, one he had been on in the past, but I was seeing some improvements since the 1st visit, so we gave it a try). At this time it was decided that we would come back for a 3rd visit as the last appointment of the day to discuss the exact treatment plan and using methotrexate.

Today was the 3rd visit. I went down fully expecting that Bradley would be starting on this methotrexate within the week, however.....

Dr. Kearse is pleased with the results he is seeing so far and has now decided the risk vs. benefit factor is not in favor of methotrexate. He also decided we can go longer between visits (from every 3 weeks to now we don't go back for 6 weeks).

Praise God! and many thanks to all of you who have been praying for him. Please continue your prayers as they are working.

Here is a picture of Jenna and her cousin Bradley- as you can see, when he's having really bad symptoms, his mommy has to wrap his arms and legs up just so he won't be in so much pain. He's a tough little boy though- and he's always got the sweetest of smiles!
